About this property

Welcome to Rydal Hall Ltd

Rydal Hall Ltd is a 17th-century mansion set within 34 acres of well-maintained grounds in the scenic village of Rydal, near Ambleside. Combining historic charm with a modest Christian ethos, the hotel offers bright, simple rooms that many guests find comfortable, though some note typical noise and signs of wear consistent with an older building. The property is smoke-free and welcomes both children and pets, catering to a range of visitors looking for a peaceful retreat.

Facilities include free Wi-Fi, a bar, and a cafe adjacent to the hall, providing light refreshments rather than a full-service restaurant. Paid parking is available on site. Check-in is strictly from 4:00 PM, with checkout by 10:00 AM. While there is no air conditioning, fitness center, or business center, the grounds and tranquil surroundings offer an appealing environment for relaxation and reflection.

Located next to Rydal Mount & Gardens, the former home of poet William Wordsworth, it serves as a convenient base for exploring local natural features such as Windermere lake, Loughrigg Fell hiking trails, and Rydal Water. The property is approximately a two-hour drive from Teesside International Airport, making it accessible but somewhat remote. Nearby hotels provide alternative accommodation options within a short distance.

Guest feedback highlights the peaceful setting, helpful staff, and clean communal areas, though some mention additional parking fees and basic room furnishings as considerations. This hotel suits visitors seeking a quiet, nature-oriented stay rather than those expecting modern luxury or extensive on-site amenities.

I took a group on a retreat in the bunkhouse. It's situated in a fabulous location, and the bunkhouse was clean and well stocked. Check your check-in time, as your email says wpm," but they have a very strict 4pm rule. We were also surprised with additional parking fees, which I did not pass on to my guests. As they had paid me, do check hidden costs. Lights were permanently on in the social room, bright, and I'm sure used up unnecessary electricity.... we were told we couldn't turn them off... I'm not sure why. Overall, it was a beautiful location.. definitely requires a bit more front facing etiquette.

Didn't go into the hall due to walking to Ambleside from Grasmere but there is a coffee shop which sells ice cream (also dog friendly ice cream) right next to the water falls and bridge. Very relaxing and great for a pit shop along the coffin walk path.

Great place for a short stay in the Lakes District. The location is amazing and the staff is very nice. The rooms are a bit noisy (to be expected in an historic building) but the beds are very comfy.

We didn't know what to expect when we booked for 2 nights in March 2025 however this hotel would suit anyone. It was stunning! We really loved it. The location is wonderful for sightseeing. The hotel is beautiful with fantastic gardens and a relaxed, peaceful environment. The views from the room were incredible. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean. The bedroom was simple and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice of food and stunning views from the window. We'll definitely be back!

We had a fantastic stay at Rydal hall, the gardens are fantastic and the dinner and breakfast have a fantastic view on the beautiful park. You can have a cozy night at the bar playing board games. We had a room with the best view on the gardens and it was so peaceful and relaxing. We were so sad to go! Cannot recommend enough! We’ll be back!

Set in an Area of outstanding natural beauty Rydal Hall is a spiritual retreat centre. I had a pleasant stay and benefited from the peace and quiet that this place affords. Excellent customer service and the staff are very helpful and obliging. One area for improvement would be better facilities in the room. There's a noticeable crack in the sink and some of the fixtures could do with a makeover/upgrade. The wardrobe imo has seen better days and the coat hangers were not of the best quality. Also no drying room for wet or muddy clothes. However, on the whole I would recommend this place as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

An absolutely wonderful stay. Gorgeous grounds, and the house is beautiful, atmospheric and very clean. Reception staff were polite and helpful. Rooms were simple, spacious, clean and cosy. Breakfast was delicious with lovely pastries, yogurts, fresh bread, eggs and the best bacon I've had in a long time. I left feeling revitalised and I hope to return one day in the not too distant future.
